Senior Engineer, Hawaiian Electric Company
In 2012, Hawaiian Electric Company issued a Request for Proposals to install a photovoltaic solar overhead parking canopy at their Campbell Industrial Park power plant in Kapolei, Oahu. Hawaiian Electric Company was looking to provide shade for the plant’s parking lot and take advantage of the opportunity to generate renewable energy.
Island Pacific Energy won the contract to construct the 128kW overhead canopy system as well as the subsequent contract to install 118kW system on the roof of the water treatment building. The photovoltaic systems were the first to be installed at a Hawaiian Electric Company power plant.
A 128kW photovoltaic overhead canopy is installed over the parking lot of the Hawaiian Electric Company Campbell Industrial Park power plant. The system consists of over 450 solar modules and two inverters. Additionally, a 118kW photovoltaic system is installed on the roof of the water treatment plant. The water treatment system consists of 472 solar modules and 472 micro inverters. Combined, the two systems generate nearly 400,000kWh of clean, renewable energy annually.
