Vice President, Punahou School
In the Fall of 2010, Punahou School was constructing the Omidyar K-1 Neighbor. In their goal to achieve LEED Platinum certification for the facility, they needed a photovoltaic solar power system. As a non-profit, Punahou School did not have the ability to use the available tax credits. Island Pacific Energy had the solution. A Power Purchase Agreement.
Under a Power Purchase Agreement, Island Pacific Energy installed a photovoltaic solar power system at no cost to Punahou School. Island Pacific Energy owns, operates and maintains the system on the roof of the Omidyar K-1 Neighborhood and sells the energy generated to the school at a cost lower than utility power. Island Pacific Energy’s original Power Purchase Agreement with Punahou School was first of its kind with a non-profit in the State of Hawai‘i.
The 278kW photovoltaic solar energy system is installed across the seven buildings of the Omidyar K-1 Neighborhood on the campus of Punahou School. The system consists of over 1000 solar modules and ten inverters. The photovoltaic system is connected to the campus grid, providing energy to the entire school. The system generates over 400,000kWh of clean, renewable energy annually.
