In 2010, construction began on the new fitness center at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickham. The fitness center was a LEED building project and it needed a photovoltaic solar power system to achieve LEED gold status. Island Pacific Energy was selected by the prime contractor on the project, Kiewit Building Group to design and install the photovoltiac system.
The 409kW photovoltaic solar energy system is installed on the east and west facings roofs of the fitness center. The system consists of over 1400 solar modules and four inverters. The photovoltaic system is connected to the Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickham grid, providing energy to the entire base. The system generates over 700,000kWh of clean, renewable energy annually.
