Vice President, Punahou School
In the Fall of 2008, Punahou School was looking for ways to save money on their electric bill and further their sustainability goals. They wanted to install photovoltaic solar power but as a non-profit did not have the ability to use the available tax credits. Island Pacific Energy had the solution. A Power Purchase Agreement.
Under a Power Purchase Agreement, Island Pacific Energy installed a photovoltaic solar power system at no cost to Punahou School. Island Pacific Energy owns, operates and maintains the system and sells the energy generated to the school at a cost lower than utility power. Island Pacific Energy’s Power Purchase Agreement with Punahou School was the first of its kind with a non-profit in the State of Hawai‘i.
The 468kW photovoltaic solar energy system is installed across five buildings on the campus of Punahou School. The system consists of over 2000 solar modules and five inverters. The photovoltaic system is connected to the campus grid, providing energy to the entire school. The system generates over 750,000kWh of clean, renewable energy annually.
Island Pacific Energy owns, operates and maintains the photovoltaic solar energy facility under a Power Purchase Agreement with Punahou School. The system was installed at no cost to Punahou School and the energy generated is sold to the school at a cost lower than utility power.
